Aeternitas, a costuming centric CON, coming this spring!
The Malfoys and HPMA invite you to Aeternitas, a small convention with big offerings, such as a fabulous HP themed burlesque show, a costuming shoot at Castle in the Clouds, a wide variety of Wizarding classes and presentation, meetups meetups meetups, pool parties, a Grand Ball in a tent by the lake, 2 Wizard Rock shows with a rare appearance by "Ministry of Magic", and The Malfoys hosting the epic Fashion Show with cocktail hour and a giant catwalk, also in the tent by the lake. Aeternitas takes place at a beautiful lakeside resort in Laconia NH. There is a good chance that we will be able to have the hotel to ourselves for this event, so tell your friends, bring your family, Aeternitas is going to be epic.
In cahoots with HPMA
and HPNY - The Group that shall not be Named
- Draco and I are Chairs of Cosplay, and as this is a very cosplay/costuming centric convention, on a smaller, more intimate scale, We promise all the more opportunity to dress up in a gorgeous setting, and time to hang out with old friends, and meet new ones. http://www.aeternitas2011.org/( Some photos of the Resort from Our site visit...Collapse )

I just wanted to let everyone over here know that HP-MA is planning an HP conference in NH for Spring 2011.
Here is the blurb from our website:
Four days of pure fandom magic await you at Aeternitas. Being held just months before the last Potter film is released, Aeternitas is a conference focused on the continued life of our fandom. Our theme for the weekend is magic is forever. We believe that the friendship and family found in our fandom is forever. This conference is meant to celebrate that.
Aeternitas is like past and present Harry Potter conferences in many ways. It follows the Thursday through Sunday schedule. It consists of formal academic programming during the day, and has evening events like wizard rock shows and a formal ball like other conferences.
However, you will find that Aeternitas also differs from the other conferences in many ways. Aeternitas will be an intimate conference with a maximum of 500 attendees. By the end of the weekend we hope you will recognize the faces of all of the other attendees and feel a true sense of community.
The venue also differentiates Aeternitas from other conferences- unlike the chain hotels Harry Potter conferences are usually held at, the Margate Resort is an independent family-owned hotel. If our conference sells out, we will be the only guests on site during Aeternitas.
Cost is one of the biggest differences between our conference and others. We have kept the registration price as low as possible. The low registration cost combined with the affordability of the hotel makes our conference a very economical choice. We hope to give a lot of amazing and memorable experiences for as little a cost as possible.
Aeternitas will offer a little something for every member of our fandom. There will be cosplay, academic programming, dancing, wizard rock, pool parties, and so much more. Please use the navigation bar on the left to look at all of the things Aeternitas has to offer. Whether you are coming from New England or California, we hope you will join us for this fabulous event.
Any and all proceeds from this event will be donated to our two charities- The Harry Potter Alliance and The Lung Cancer Alliance.
Aeternitas 2011 is being held from April 28, 2011 to May 1, 2011 at The Margate Resort in Laconia, NH. Registration is now open and cost is 90.00 per person until December 1, 2010 when the price jumps to 120.00. Registration is limited to 500 attendees, so be sure to get yours early!
For more information please visit: www.aeternitas2011.org.

Renamed! HP-MA is on LJ.
Thanks to alabastardragon
and His Wizardry, this community is now HP-MA!
Now I encourage you all to meander over to the official HP-MA website ~ HP-MA
~ and join so you can check out the forums and upcoming activities and events in the works and planning stages.Introducing the HP Fan Group Calendar Project
. Its goal, to collect high resolution photos from as many HP Fan Groups as possible from around the world and show them off in an awesome Calendar. This was originally my idea from a Facebook discussion, and this group has so many creative members, why not US?
The general design idea is that each months primary photo will be a group shot of a group in their best HP Cosplay and that photo will be surrounded by various other action photos of that group. We honestly don't know how this calendar will be sold, produced or distributed yet. But the most important part is getting it designed.
I've volunteered to organize a session or two, and would like as many of you as possible to participate, whether you dress as a character or more or want to show off your school robes/colours.
We could do this in conjunction with another event such as a Wrock show or the Faire, or we could gather in a beautiful setting solely to take photos in costume, or out if you prefer. Just let me know.
******OTHER EVENTS COMING UP:
Sunday, October 11th- Next and 4th Monthly Meetup 4PM-6PM at Pandemonium Books in Cambridge.
The weekend of October 23rd-25th: We will be joined by many members of NY's The Group That Shall Not Be Named for some Hallowe'en themed frivolity.
Friday, October 23rd- Salem trip! 7PM-11:30PM.
Saturday, October 24th- Costume Party! 7PM-12:00 AM.Sunday, October 25th
- MOS Exhibit! As far as the exhibit goes- tickets are already on sale, so decisions will be made shortly as to what time we want to visit. I am hoping the museum will be willing to block a time slot of at least a half hour that only our group will be able to purchase tickets to enter the exhibit. I am just not sure that this is likely due to it being opening day. Look for an announcement soon either way!
We're also looking for a volunteer for quidditch
. I am not sure how many member of the group are interested in quidditch at this time, but as we grow the interest will surely grow. However, I am not a sporty person myself, and am at a loss when it comes to coordinating something like this. I am looking for someone who would like to take charge of forming our own quidditch team! If you are interested, please contact me!
Lastly, next May will be the Hogwarts Prom
. There will be dinner, live wrock, dancing, and more, keep checking the website for updates on this event.
New name, new opportunities ... welcome to HP-MA
As our local HP group HP-MA has been growing and becoming very active, I've decided that this community would be best served by merging with HP-MA, and I will be changing the name from HP New England to HP-MA sometime this week, and linking us to the website http://www.hp-ma.com
Please, I invite you to join HP-MA if you haven't already, and no you don't have to live in MA to do so. HP-MA's forums and main club activities will be centered there on the main site, http://www.hp-ma.com
, this LJ community is going to serve as an adjunct, like the facebook site, another place to post events and links as they are announced.

where to get uniform pieces around Boston?
As you hopefully know, the Harry & the Potters Yule Ball is coming up soon
! A friend and I were deciding what to wear. I kind of think it's more fun to go in costume, than in formalwear. So we decided to go as Hogwarts schoolgirls :) We don't have any ties or anything, so we have to find them (or make them) last minute :)
Does anyone know of a place in the Boston area to get house ties? I can drive, so outside of Boston is fine. Also, is there any place to get a sweater? My friend already has a gray vneck, so she's all set -- assuming it won't be too hot! :) She has everything really but the tie. I still have to go looking for a gray skirt and probably a sweater. And gray socks. I pretty much have nothing :) Oh, and is there any place to get scarves, too? I don't think I have time to knit some :)

Want to help plan a 2008 MA tour to help raise $ for Darfur?
I'm sorry for posting a lot of Wrock MA stuff here, but I'm not getting much reaction elsewhere. If you live in MA you might be interested in this: The Scoop:
Magic! At the Dormitory and I (Wrock MA) are still planning a concert for December or January (if that time is not good, read the next paragraph) to help raise money for Darfur. We are still waiting to hear from places about hosting it. If you have any suggestions, please let us know. If you want to come, send us dates that you are available in December or January.
We also want to plan a tour of MA to raise money. The tour might include a concert every other month in 2008, if it is possible. We'll try to have as many as possible. A band can show up once in the tour if they can't play more than one show. Bands who can play more than one show can rotate around MA throughout the year. That's a very important fact: we want this show to be throughout 2008. So any time you are available, we can plan a show. At each concert we want to have a donation can to collect the money. Bands can come up with whatever they want to bring and sell to also raise money. Wrock MA! might make T-Shirts.
How You Can Help:
*If you are a band that is interested, let us know when you can come to MA so we can plan a show for you.
*If you are a band or a fan who lives near a library in MA, tell them about Darfur and about the tour. If they are interested in hosting a show, let us know! If the tour managers (Bee and Magic! At the Dormitory) can't make it to that library to do any planning, then you can become a manager with us! Your job will be manage the concert at that library or whatever the place is.
*If you are a band who wants to help but can't make it to MA at any time in 2008, make something for us that we can sell to also raise money. If you do make something and want a certain % of the money, let us know.
*If you can't do anything mentioned above, it would be just as good to help spread the word about this tour.
Seriously, we can't make this the best tour it can be without your help!
*Note: ALL of the money we make from this tour will be put towards the Darfur cause.

MA Darfur Fast Concert/Wrockstock
MA wrock band Magic! At the Dormitory
and I (Wrock MA!
) are planning a concert in MA sometime this month to raise money for the Harry Potter Alliance
. Here is our message:
As many of you may have seen from the countless bulletins of other wizrock bands, Darfur Fast is coming up this week. Refugee men and women are being tortured, killed, and raped everyday. The HP Alliance has given a donation link
to help, but quite a lot of us don't have credit cards, and helping out seems pretty hopeless.
This is why I (Magic! At the Dormitory
) am organizing a MA Darfur Fast wrockstock (name pending). A few jars for money and a couple acoustic guitars in a comfy place is all we need to change hundreds of lives out in Darfur. There is no solid place for a location, but we need all the help and suggestions we can get.Wrock MA!
are available to any suggestions, tips, and anything else you could offer. We're looking for a place in Metro-Boston or any surrounding area that has plenty of seating and would let us play for free for a few hours. If you could pull a few strings at a coffee shop or a library, you would be amazing. Let us know if you would like to play, help out behind the scenes, offer some equipment, or sell homemade items for donation money.(EDIT: It will be good if bands bring their own guitars, and they can bring crafts (keychains, necklaces, origami, etc) to sell.)
Thank you so much for taking your time to read this, and keep wrocking.

Apologies for not posting in ages, things have been very busy, but here it is, Hallowe'en is upon Us, anyone here doing their HP costumes for parties or events this weekend or Hallowe'en itself?
Hopefully the rain will let up tonight, for aunty_kreist
